news chevron actively promotes recycling of tail water to support green development
Facilitated by the Urban Environment Management Bureau of Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone (FTZ), Chevron (Tianjin) Lubricants Co., Ltd. (Chevron Tianjin Plant) cooperates with the FTZ sanitation company to provide them with tail water generated from soft water production free of charge as a source of greening water, an effort to reduce water emissions and improve water efficiency in line with the national call for companies to be water conservative and efficient.
Chevron Tianjin Plant is located in the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone and its main products are lubricants and coolant. The production of coolant uses soft water as the main raw material. In the soft water system, tap water goes through quartz sand filters and activated carbon filters to remove sediment, particulate matter and other impurities, and then enters the two-stage reverse osmosis system through a precision filter to be desalinated, and finally becomes soft water which is used for coolant preparation. The tail water from soft water production mainly contains impurities such as Ca2+, Mg2+, sediment, and particulate matter, but still meets the standard for municipal water uses. The soft water production at the Chevron Tianjin Plant is about 3,800 tons per year, generating 1,300 tons of tail water per year.
In order to promote the recycling of tail water and fulfill corporate citizen responsibilities, Chevron Tianjin plant actively communicated with the FTZ Urban Environment Bureau and sanitation company. With the confirmation that the tail water meets the criteria of urban greening water use and as soon as the alignment on cooperation was reached, Chevron Tianjin plant built a new water tank, supporting pipes and water pumps in the plant so that water can be loaded to the sprinkler truck by simply connecting the pipe to the truck. The system was officially put into use on August 15, 2024, which marked the second National Ecological Day. The sanitation company used the tail water for urban greening and road cleaning, realizing the recycling of tail water and reducing the use of tap water. The recycling of tail water not only provides a new idea for the FTZ to solve the imbalance between water supply and demand, but also contributes to improving living environment and enhancing ecological conservation. With consistent commitment on water conservation, Chevron will continue to step up its efforts in water conservation at the company and expand ways to save water and lower consumption.
