press release chevron joins USCBC delegation in meetings with sichuan and chengdu officials
March 18-19, 2024 – Chevron had the opportunity to join the US-China Business Council (USCBC) delegation led by its President, Craig Allen, in engaging with Sichuan and Chengdu government leaders.
Representatives from 16 U.S. companies across various industries attended three events to learn about investment policies and have direct exchanges with Sichuan and Chengdu government officials. Segun Kuteyi, President of Chevron China, gave remarks at all three events introducing Chevron’s operations in China and Sichuan and had the opportunity to have candid conversations with senior provincial and municipal leaders.
It was encouraging to hear that the Sichuan government remains committed to creating an internationalized high-performing business environment. With a population of approximately 83 million, Sichuan’s GDP surpassed 6 trillion yuan (approximately 843 billion U.S. dollars) last year, marking a 6% year-on-year growth. Sichuan province is fondly known as the home of pandas. Its capital city, Chengdu, with a population of over 20 million, hosted the world university games last year, and is one of the fastest growing cities in China with two world-class international airports.
It is proud to see that Chevron’s production from Chuandongbei Gas Project (CDB) contributes to the robust economic development of Sichuan and that the reliable, affordable and ever cleaner energy Chevron supplies help to improve people’s wellbeing and supports the energy transition in Sichuan.
Big thanks to USCBC and the Sichuan and Chengdu governments for such meaningful and diverse engagements which are fundamental in advancing US-China economic and trade cooperation in Sichuan.
