Highlights of 'light up the
future' program

In China, we partner with local stakeholders, governments, and nongovernmental organizations in communities near our operations who share insights on matters important to them. And our social investment strategy seeks to respond to needs in the communities where we operate.

Truck drivers are important stakeholders of our lubricant business. In collaboration with China Rural Development Foundation, Chevron initiated the "Light Up the Future" program in 2023, to provide financial assistance for 500 children from underprivileged truck driver families in Hebei, Sichuan, and Shandong provinces, helping them access better educational resources and pursue their dreams.

Chevron recognizes the importance of truck drivers, who are the backbone of the logistics and transportation industry and the economy., However, due to the professional commitments, long-haul truck drivers spend less quality time with their families.

Joining hands with Chengdu Rongcheng Football Club, the Chinese Super League, and China Rural Development Foundation, we hosted the "Rongcheng Red · Light up the Future" event this summer to honor truck drivers and public transport workers. Our intent was to raise social awareness and recognition of the truck drivers and public transport community and express gratitude for their contributions to our society.

A wonderful family trip

On July 11th, representatives from truck driver families who had received assistance from "Light up the Future" program visited Chengdu Rongcheng Football Club and experienced the fun of professional football. On the morning of July 12th, they went to the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Base, where they had close contact with cute pandas. During these family gatherings, truck drivers had the opportunity to spend precious time with their families. They were appreciative of this unique opportunity created by Chevron and its partners.

An unforgettable night

On the evening of July 12th, the families watched an exciting football match in the Phoenix Mountain Stadium. Prior to the match, Chevron and Rongcheng presented a commemorative jersey to the truck drivers, expressing gratitude for their hard work and dedication. They also took the opportunity to call upon all the audience to pay respect to all the unsung heroes of the city.

This event became a remarkable experience for all the truck drivers and their families. They shared with Chevron and the NGO that they had a wonderful evening watching the match and their children enjoyed this special trip to Chengdu.

So far, “Light up the Future’ has benefitted 500 children from truck driver families. This program has received a CSR award and has been included in AmCham China's 2024 Social Impact Report. In addition, we have received a letter of appreciation from the Hebei Provincial Department of Transport. We are proud of being a responsible corporate citizen and will remain true to our vision – to be the global energy company most admired for our people, partnership and performance.
